U.S. National Marksmanship Championships

When it comes to shooting straight, some of the best student marksmen (and women!) in the country are right here in Rio Rancho.  The Rio Rancho High Marine JROTC sharpshooters scored big at the National JROTC Marksmanship competition in Alabama.

The RRHS JROTC marksmanship team earned a ranking of 7th in the nation, up two spots from last year.  Two of Rio Rancho's own were recognized as part of the Top 10 JROTC shooters in the US.  And – the team is all female!

Bataan Death March Marathon

It sound grueling, and it is.   The Bataan Death March Marathon on March 19, held on White Sands Missile Range, requires students to brave the elements over harsh desert terrain.  This year's race was exceptionally challenging due to the temperatures reaching in the mid 80's by the end of the race.
