Today, we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day. This holiday (on the third Monday in January), honors the achievements of Martin Luther King, Jr., a Baptist minister who advocated for the use of nonviolent means to end racial segregation. King was among the most influential of African American civil rights leaders in the 1960s, and he was instrumental in the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
In observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, all Rio Rancho Public Schools are closed. The District Office is still in operation today.
